Guide to Chinese Visa Application

In order to further promote the bilateral personnel exchanges between China and Iran, starting from March 15, 2023, the Chinese Embassy in Iran adjusts visa application requirement. Applicants are kindly reminded to apply for corresponding categories of visa in accordance to your purpose of visit.


1. Application Procedures

1.1 Fill in visa application form online (http://cova.cs.mfa.gov.cn), and make an appointment (https://avas.mfa.gov.cn) for time of visit to the embassy.

1.2 Submit application in person for fingerprints collection at the Chinese Embassy in Iran according to the appointment time.

*Fingerprinting is waived for the following visa applicants:

a. Applicants under the age of 14 or over 70;

b. Diplomatic passport holders or applicants eligible for diplomatic, official and courtesy visas;

c. Applicants who have applied for a visa and had their fingerprints collected in this embassy with the same passport within five years;

d. Applicants with all fingerprints mutilated or uncollectible.


2. Application Materials

2.1 Basic application materials

a. Original passport and copy of the biodata page (validity of passport should be no less than 6 months with at least 2 blank visa pages); 

b. Printed and signed Application Form, Confirmation page and AVAS Confirmation page; 

c. 1 photo (refer to Attachment 1 for photo specifications); 

d. Proof of legal residence in Iran (applicable to non-Iranian applicants)

Invitation letter TE or Verification Letter of Invitation issued by the central and state organs, central enterprises, foreign affairs and commercial departments of provincial governments, and foreign affairs departments of municipal governments; applicants with invitation letter issued by a trade partner in China and other required materials may be exempted from submitting Invitation letter TE or Verification Letter of Invitation . See Attachment 3 for details

F 

Issued to those who intend to go to China for non-commercial activities such as educational, technological, cultural activities

Invitation letter TE or Verification Letter of Invitation issued by the central and state organs, central enterprises, foreign affairs and commercial departments of provincial governments, and foreign affairs departments of municipal governments; applicants with invitation letter issued by a inviting party in China and other required materials may be exempted from submitting Invitation letter TE or Verification Letter of Invitation . See Attachment 3 for details

Issued to those who intend to work in China

Notification Letter of Foreigner's Work Permit or Foreigner's Work Permit Card (original)

S1

Issued to family members of foreigners residing in China (stay  exceeding 180 days)

*Family members are limited to: spouse, parents, children under the age of 18, parents of spouse

① Original and copy of the proof of kinship between the applicant and the inviter (such as marriage certificate, birth certificate, certification of kinship, etc.)

② Invitation letter issued by foreigners residing in China

③ Photocopy of inviter's passport and Chinese residence permit

 S2 

Issued to family members of foreigners staying or residing in China (stay not exceeding 180 days)

*Range of family members : spouse, parents, spouse's parents, children, children's spouses, siblings, grandparents, grandchildren

① Original and copy of the proof of kinship between the applicant and the inviter (such as marriage certificate, birth certificate, certification of kinship, etc.)

② Invitation letter issued by foreigners residing in China

③ Photocopy of inviter's passport and residence permit

Issued to those who intend to go to China for medical treatment

① Invitation letter, hospitalization certificate or proof of  admission issued by hospital in China

②Original bank deposit certificate of not less than 10,000 US dollars

③ Accompanying persons are limited to family members (spouse, parents, parents of spouse, children, spouse of children, brothers and sisters, grandparents, maternal grandparents, grandchildren, maternal grandchildren) and should be no more than 2, proof of kinship and hospital certificate should be submitted

Issued to foreign family members of Chinese citizens or foreigners with permanent residence status in China (stay exceeding 180 days)

*Range of family members : spouse, parents, spouse's parents, children, children's spouses, siblings, grandparents, grandchildren

①Original and copy of the family relationship certificate between the applicant and the inviter (such as marriage certificate, birth certificate, certification of kinship, etc.)

②Invitation letter issued by a Chinese citizen or a foreigner with Chinese permanent residence status

③ Proof of inviter's Chinese identity (e.g. Chinese ID card, household registration book), or foreigner's passport and Chinese permanent residence card

Issued to foreign family members of Chinese citizens or foreigners with permanent residence status in China (stay not exceeding 180 days)

①Original and copy of the family relationship certificate between the applicant and the inviter (such as marriage certificate, birth certificate, certification of kinship, etc.)

②Invitation letter issued by a Chinese citizen or a foreigner with Chinese permanent residence status

③ Proof of inviter's Chinese identity (e.g. Chinese ID card, household registration book), or foreigner's passport and Chinese permanent residence card

X1

Issued to international studentswho go to China for long-termstudy (stay exceeding 180 days)

①Original and copy of Visa Application Form for Foreigners Studying in China (JW201 or JW202 form)

②Original and copy of Admission Notice

③Original bank deposit certificate (no less than 2,500 US dollars * remaining school years) or scholarship certificate

Issued to international students who go to China for short-term study (stay not exceeding 180 days)

①Original and copy of Visa Application Form for Foreigners Studying in China (JW201 or JW202 form)

②Original and copy of Admission Notice

③Original bank deposit certificate (no less than 1,500 US dollars) or scholarship certificate

J1

Issued to foreign correspondent stationed to China

visa notification letter issued by the Information Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China and official letter issued by applicant’s media organization (applicants are required to contact the embassy in advance for relevant procedures)

J2

Issued to foreign journalist for short-term mission

visa notification letter issued by the Information Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China or an Authorized department and official letter issued by applicant’s media organization (applicants are required to contact the embassy in advance for relevant procedures)

 R 

Issued to foreign high-level talents and urgently needed specialized talents

*Spouse and children under the age of 18 submit proof of relationship (e.g. marriage certificate, birth certificate) for S2 visa

Permanent residence in China

Original and copy of Foreigner's Permanent Residence Status Confirmation Form

Issued to crew members

A letter of guarantee issued by a foreign transport company or an invitation letter issued by a relevant entity in China


3. Processing Time

(1) Regular service: 4 working days

(2) Express service: 3 working days

NOTE: Pickup form is subject to retrieve on visa delivery.


5. Important Reminder

(1) Applicants are required to submit authentic application materials. The act of providing false information or falsifying application materials violates Chinese laws and will directly affect the approval of visa application, and will result in the person concerned being denied visa to China or enter China for a long period of time or permanently. The Chinese Embassy in Iran will verify the authenticity of invitation letters, and invitation letter issued by inviting entities who provide false information will no longer be accepted.

(2) Applicants are required to fulfil fingerprints collection procedure in person. Forging fingerprints or fingerprints imposter lead to legal consequences as refusal to enter China, which shall be borne by the applicant.
